Creating an app that we’d want to see made was our first step.

We kicked things off just sitting and thinking about an app that’d actually fix a problem we cared about. As we talked, we both realized how much we’d love to be part of local vendor events—whether as sellers or as customers. So, we wanted to build an app that makes finding and selling at these events way easier! Thus, Local Eye was created.

Creating solutions to problems…

If you want to create an app that truly solves a problem, you first need to identify what said problem is. For us, we noticed there wasn’t a great mobile app for sharing art in a social media-style format, and nothing that made it easy to find local art or vendor events—or even post and sell artwork. As we planned out the necessary screens, we had to consider just how in-depth we wanted the app to be.

Working on a team project.

When divvying up work between the two of us, it became easier to designate who did what. With Sophia’s immense creativity, coming up with concepts, ideas, and how to improve user experience was all a breeze with Sophia’s help. I stayed dedicated to making sure the logo and brand were up to both of our standards, though throughout the entire project we both had each other’s back, helping out where we saw fit.

When designing the logo for the app…

We wanted to immediately give off the concept that this app was meant for artists and/or art lovers. We mimicked a Picasso-esque portraiture with our main logo, one that was looked upon favorably by all those in our class.

Designer’s notes

This project represented a refreshing shift from our typical workflow thus far in our major. Collaborating with Sophia was a group project experience like no other. We seamlessly exchanged ideas and feedback, allowing the design process to unfold naturally and effortlessly.

From the initial concept discussions to the final touches, without Sophia's creativity and insight playing a significant role in shaping our direction, the project and the design aesthetics would not have been as effective and successful as they came out to be! Overall, this collaboration has not only enhanced the project but also strengthened my mutual respect and appreciation for other's design philosophies, processes, and collaboration.
